Dua for Peace and Provision: Rabbi Ij’al Hadha Baladan Aminan (Quran 2:126) – Arabic, Hindi, Urdu & Meaning

Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) asked Allah for something very special: a safe city and food for its people. This dua is in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 126, and it is about Makkah, the city of the Kaaba.

In Surah Ibrahim (14:37), Ibrahim says that he settled some of his family in a valley with no crops, near Allah’s Sacred House. This helps us understand why he asked for both peace and food.

Roman English

Rabbij-‘al haadhaa baladan aaminan wa-rzuq ahlahu minath-thamaraati man aamana minhum billaahi wal-yawmil-aakhir.

ऐ मेरे रब! इस (शहर) को अमन वाला शहर बना दे और इसके रहने वालों को फलों की रोज़ी दे, उनको जो उनमें से अल्लाह और आख़िरत के दिन पर ईमान लाएँ।

Simple Explanation

Ibrahim asked Allah for two things for Makkah:

  • Safety: ‘make this a secure city’
  • Provision: ‘provide its people with fruits’

Ibrahim asked for this provision for those of them who believe in Allah and the Last Day. Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran explains that when Ibrahim had earlier asked about leadership for his children, Allah said it would be given only to the righteous and not to the wrongdoers (Quran 2:124). So here Ibrahim himself added the condition of faith.

Allah’s Reply in the Same Verse

Allah said that even the one who disbelieves will be given a little enjoyment for a short time. After that, he will be pushed towards the punishment of the Fire, and that is a terrible end.

Was This Dua Accepted?

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan and Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran both say that Allah accepted this dua of Ibrahim, and Makkah has remained a place of peace and respect. Ahsan al-Bayan adds that although Makkah is in a valley without farming, fruits and grains from all over the world reach it.

What Does the Authentic Hadith Say?

In Sahih Bukhari 2129 and Sahih Muslim 1360, Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said that Ibrahim declared Makkah sacred and made dua for its people. The Prophet ﷺ then said that he declared Madinah sacred in the same way, and that he made dua for blessings in its sa’ and its mudd (two measures used for food), as Ibrahim did for Makkah. In Sahih Muslim the wording says ‘twice’ what Ibrahim asked for.

This shows that the Prophet ﷺ himself spoke about Ibrahim’s dua for Makkah and its people.

Benefits and Lessons

  • Ask Allah for peace and provision. In this dua, peace comes first and then food. Both are great blessings.
  • Make dua for others. Ibrahim prayed for people who would live in Makkah in the future, not only for himself.
  • Be thoughtful in your dua. Ibrahim asked for provision for those who believe in Allah and the Last Day.
  • A Prophet’s dua can stay for a very long time. Makkah is still a place of peace and respect today, and the Prophet ﷺ mentioned this dua in the Hadith above.

Common Questions

Is this dua only for Makkah? In the Quran it was made for Makkah. Allah invites us to ask Him for what we need (Quran 40:60), so asking Him for peace and provision for our homes and countries is a good dua too. If you want a ruling on using these exact words for another place, please ask a trusted scholar.

Is there a fixed reward for reciting it? We have not found an authentic Hadith that gives this verse a fixed reward or a fixed time of recitation.

Are the Hindi and Urdu lines the Quran? No. The Arabic is the word of Allah. The other lines are only to help you read and understand. Please learn the correct pronunciation from a qualified teacher.
